I was contacted by David about his documentary he had created.  As you know I am full supporter of those of us that seek to tell the true story of what we do and this is exactly what I meant.  The Story of Paramedics’ Jack and Kate and their shared experience of occupational traumatic stress!

Part of the problem is this guy thought of himself as a “superman” figure. It’s a long fall when when your ego allows you to actually think of yourself as a “hero”.

I agree that if we went around calling ourselves heroes that would make any content completely non-authentic to the 98% of us that understand that this job is not about heroics, but about compassion and empathy.  It takes a completely different mindset to go into this for the heroics and ultimately leads to a short timer in the biz

Interesting… I appreciate and agree with the content, but I’m not sure the style of the delivery would be received well by my peers. That being said, the issue of traumatic stress in the pre or out of hospital environment should be addressed not only by the providers, but also the agencies(employers) that deliver emergency medical services.

One thing I have learned about being in the video business is that as a paramedic we need better representation of our industry through video and more visually stimulating content.  As I saw this I felt as a Cinematographer that it lacked a lot to really push the message, but non the less the attempt was made and I had to acknowledge his work.  It is hard sometimes when you want to work on a topic that is very personal to you and you have limited resources, but I certainly welcome and EMS provider who wants to tell our story to send their stuff our way and let’s educate the world on what we do!
