Cardiovascular Disease is the largest killer in the industrialized world. According to the World Health Organization an estimated 17.3 million people on our planet died of cardiovascular disease in 2008. 2200 people die of cardiovascular disease in the United States daily, that is 1 death every 39 seconds.
In Season One we had the opportunity to explore two STEMI systems of care. Sioux Falls South Dakota and Dearborn Michigan. In a stark contrast they showed us how a complete state could integrate a process of dealing with STEMI patients all the while sharing personal stories of survivors and the first responders that began the call. In Dearborn Michigan a city of 100,000 is protected by a fire department that embraces technology and seeks out ways to improve the care they provide their patients. Bordered by Detroit and other departments that haven’t embraced STEMI care, the paramedics of Dearborn Fire have set themselves apart and it is a testament to better patient care.
In every community there are medical professionals that strive to provide the best patient care possible. As we visit with Medical Directors, Doctors, Fire/ EMS Providers, patients and the families impacted it is their stories of survival and commitment to improving patient care that set the stage for this series!
Every EMS system is different and no “one size fits all” solution exists for every community. That’s where our web series comes in! Find out how real EMS professionals, nurses and doctors save real human lives.
Additional behind the scenes (BTS), family and expert interviews, collection of first person accounts, system profiles, and group discussions that will bring an additional level of expansive understanding of what goes into the entire system.
